Saco River

There is nothing worse to me than having my friends plan a summer trip to a place that doesn’t allow dogs.  Looking at Riley’s sad big brown eyes when I walk out the door breaks my heart every time, so this summer I planned our trip.

We canoed the Saco River in Maine! The Saco River is a great place to bring your pup.  We saw a number of other dogs along the river that Riley got to swim around with.  How the trip works is there are 2 people to each canoe plus a pup.  Anything that you will need on the trip will have to fit in your canoe, tent, clothes, food, etc.  I put a large foam pad in the middle of the canoe for Riley to rest on when she got a little tired.  We would canoe down the river till the sun was about to go down, on the sides of the river are beaches to set up camp.  Set up your tent, eat some dinner, hang out with some interesting people that are also on the river, go to bed and wake up and do it all over again.  The more people that come on the trip, the better.  We had 16 people and 4 dogs which made for an amazing trip!  One piece of advise, take your pup out on a canoe before going on the trip.  It took Riley a little while to get used to it but once she did, she loved it!

Bloc 11 Cafe

l.jpg

Since this weekend was so amazing, Riley and I took full advantage of it and spent the whole weekend outside.  We went to Nunziato Field in Somerville which I have blogged about before.  There were so many dogs there, Riley didn’t know what to do with herself.  We worked up quite the appetite after spending hours at the park so we decided to find a close place to eat.  Right down the street from the park is a cafe that is pretty great.

Broc 11 cafe allows your pup to hang by your side as long as you don’t mind sitting outside.  And in weather like this, why would anyone want to be inside?  The cafe itself is very eye catching and modern.  It has become one of my new favorite cafes to grab a salad or sandwich with Riley.  I love the atmosphere and I really like the crowd of people that they attract.  Not to mention that their wait staff is super friendly and they couldn’t get enough of Riley.  We have become regulars here and I definitely recommend that you check it out.

Bare Cove

So, is everyone about ready for this rain to be over? Riley and I are! Seems like it has been forever since we’ve seen the sun. I figured this week I would need a really awesome place to suggest to bring your pup once the sun decides to appear again. The winner this week is Bare Cove.

Bare Cove is located along the banks of the Weymouth Back River in the town of Hingham, MA and it really is an amazing place to bring your little buddy. It is no doubt that they probably have a ton of cooped up energy and are going to need a lot of exercise. After being indoors for days, Bare Cove is the perfect place for them to just go nuts. Dogs are allowed off leash but just remember, the park is not fenced in. Bare Cove has 469 acres of land filled with paved trails and woodland trails to walk, run, bike ride, whatever you and your pup love to do. On the weekends the park is filled with other friendly dog with very friendly owners. Riley and I have yet to come across and unfriendly dog, which is really awesome. Because of the responsible owners, this park stays super clean so make sure to bring some disposable bags to do your part.

Testimonials

Running The Pack walks my socially maladjusted dog twice a day M-F and they are fantastic.  She is not an easy dog to manage mainly because she doesn’t get along with other dogs.  I’ve tried many other walkers and Running The Pack has by far been the most accommodating and the most successful with her.
