Bloc 11 Cafe

l.jpg

Since this weekend was so amazing, Riley and I took full advantage of it and spent the whole weekend outside.  We went to Nunziato Field in Somerville which I have blogged about before.  There were so many dogs there, Riley didn’t know what to do with herself.  We worked up quite the appetite after spending hours at the park so we decided to find a close place to eat.  Right down the street from the park is a cafe that is pretty great.

Broc 11 cafe allows your pup to hang by your side as long as you don’t mind sitting outside.  And in weather like this, why would anyone want to be inside?  The cafe itself is very eye catching and modern.  It has become one of my new favorite cafes to grab a salad or sandwich with Riley.  I love the atmosphere and I really like the crowd of people that they attract.  Not to mention that their wait staff is super friendly and they couldn’t get enough of Riley.  We have become regulars here and I definitely recommend that you check it out.

TORO

toro_png.jpg

One of the best parts about the weather getting warmer is that Riley can come out to restaurants with my friends and I.  We don’t usually go out to eat very often because it’s usually too expensive.  However, sometimes you have to treat yourself.  Especially when you hear about a restaurant that people can’t stop talking about.  And my friends have not stopped talking about Toro.

Toro is located on Washington Street in the South End.  When I went inside to tell the hostess how many people were in my party, I couldn’t believe the inside.  I absolutely loved it.  It had such a cool vibe to it.  The outside was awesome too and the waitress loved Riley.  The wait staff was really great, super friendly and very helpful in answering all our questions about their food and wine.  Not only were the people that worked their super friendly but so were the other customers.  The food is what everyone had told me about and it was everything they said it was.  I couldn’t get over the grilled corn, I’m still thinking about it.  Being in the South End, the prices were a little high for me.  So, I wont be going back till I have some extra money to spare.  But, if you are looking for a great night out and want to take your pup alone, I suggest checking out Toro.  I haven’t heard a bad thing about it yet.

Brendan Behan Pub

l1.jpg

Living right near Davis Square, my roommates and I love that we are in walking distance to all the local bars.  However, there isn’t one bar around here that I would be allowed to bring Riley into and I never really thought I would find a bar that would.   Well, there is in fact one out there.  Brendan Behan Pub, located in Jamaica Plain is a dog friendly pub!  Once we heard that we jumped at the chance to check it out.

It is a classic Irish pub, one you would typically find in Boston which we love.  Inside there were lots of people, some with dogs, some with children and others with groups of friends.  Riley didn’t know how to respond since she has never come to a bar with me before.  She was great though, she kept by my side and would smell anything that was in a 2ft radius of us, but no farther than that.  The beer selection was great, we were super impressed.  The atmosphere is pretty cool, friendly people and the bartenders were pretty funny, giving us a hard time about living in Somerville.  All in good fun though.  The prices weren’t anything to complain about either.  The couple next to us had the cutest chocolate lab, so Riley had someone to hang out with.  We told them it was our first time at the pub and let us know that it probably wouldn’t be our last, “You’re never going to want to go to another bar without your dog, this place spoils you.” Which they were right.  It was great being able to have Riley there and not alone at home.  It’s definitely a bar to check out with your friends and pup.

Dog Friendly Places: Henrietta’s Table

This week Riley and I decided to dine out at Henrietta’s Table in Cambridge. The restaurant has a very organic feel to it, along with great organic food. I thought our waitress was super friendly and very accommodating. I had to leave her a big tip just for saying how beautiful she thought Riley was. However, I think Riley is starting to get a big head with all these compliments she keeps getting. As much as I enjoyed the food that Henrietta’s Table had to offer, I probably won’t be visiting the restaurant very often. Their prices were a little too expensive for my budget. Some things I really liked about Henrietta’s were that they get their produce from local farmers, which I love to support, their wine list was pretty impressive and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very relaxing. It made me feel like I was in a rustic farmhouse. I would definitely recommend this place if you don’t mind spending some extra money for some locally grown food. But, if your budget is tight this place may not be for you.

Dog Friendly Places: The Dish

Riley is always begging to go out to dinner. So this week we checked out The Dish which is in the South End. Riley and I are big fan’s of the South End, so whenever we hear about pet friendly restaurants around the area, you don’t have to ask us twice to see what’s good about them. The outdoor patio was a decent size and I had to peak inside to see what it looked like. I thought it was very cool and the style of the bar was very unique and different. I think the best part about The Dish was the staff. Probably the friendliest waitstaff in Boston. However, I could be saying that because they all loved Riley and continued to tell us how awesome she was. Her good looks scored her a bowl of water and some bread rolls, lucky dog. The full bar is what seemed to get my roommates to keep going back for more and the food was pretty great too, we had the Italian pizza of which we ate every last bite. The prices were a bit expensive for me but it is the South End, so I wasn’t too surprised.

The Kinsale Irish Pub and Restaurant

The Kinsale Irish Pub is the latest restaurant Riley and I have been to, and we loved it! Located at 2 Center Plaza in Boston, this restaurant is so unique. Now, I know there are hundreds of Irish pubs around the area but this was is special. This Pub is completely authentic. It was built in Ireland and transported here brick by brick. The inside is filled with wood, stone, large murals and Irish music playing in the background.

The outdoor patio is huge with lots of other people dining out with their pups. During the nice weather, you might have a while to wait for the patio, but the bartenders are super friendly and have a wide variety of beer and wine to serve you while you wait. While we were dining, we happen to sit next to a couple with a 3 year old lab that got along great with Riley. They sat quietly together while we ate our dinner. However, Riley couldn’t help but drool over my Irish beef stew, which was delicious. I thought the food was reasonable priced and the service was friendly but a little slow. Also, customers spending over $20 enjoy free validated parking in the neighboring Center Plaza Garage, any time on weekends or after 6pm on weekdays. We will definitely be going back for more Irish fun very soon.

Dog Friendly Places: Polka Dog Bakery

Alex These Yummy Treats Are For Fido!

Riley and I are constantly looking for new and places that offer interesting dog products. We’ve recently come across a place called the Polka Dog Bakery. Located at 256 Shawmut Avenue in South Boston, this treat boutique for dogs has a heartfelt story about how it got started. The bakery is a tribute to the owners late dog Pearl, a one-eyed Puerto Rican Boxer that was a stray found outside San Juan. They were only supposed to keep her for one night. However, once they met her, they instantly fell in love. Pearl needed more nurturing than most dogs because of her health issues, so they would use the finest ingredients in their baked goods to keep her healthy and happy.

They still use the best ingredients and prepare all the treats by hand. Not only do they sell treats, they also have toys, collars, dog beds, feeding bowls, you name it. What I appreciated most was their health and care section. They have a great selection of healthy dog food, as well as other products to keep your dog feeling like a puppy again. These products include: Dr. Harvey’s e-mune boost, ortho flex joint ease, stress and tension supplements, herbal tea blends and the list goes on. Some of their products are a little expensive but overall I would say they prices are fair.

It is worth dropping by the store, or just check out their website that lists all their products and ongoing events and that you and your pup would enjoy.

Dog Friendly Places: Kickass Cupcakes

Has your pup been extra good lately? Well, when Riley has been a good girl, I take her for a walk down to Kickass Cupcakes. Located in Davis Square at 378 Highland Ave in Somerville, you will find a variety of amazing cupcakes for yourself and special pupcakes for your pup! Riley and I are regulars, we just can’t get enough of them. There’s good reason, these guys are artisanal bakers, so everything is made from scratch daily. The ingredients are very simple: honey, flour, mayonnaise, carrot powder and water, and let’s not forget the tasty dog biscuit on top! I’m positive your pup will love them as much as mine does.

Have more furry friends at home and don’t want to leave them out? There are also cupcakes for cats! The cat cupcake has cheese and catnip sprinkled on them. Which make our cat Brooke jump for joy! We always make sure to reward our pets with a tasty treat when they are well behaved and Kickass Cupcakes is the way to go!
